Otto Festge, mayor of Madison from 1965-1969, died yesterday. He was 86.
A fitting tribute was written by Paul Soglin: http://www.waxingamerica.com/2007/11/in-memory-of-ot.html
Mayor Festge also presided over the city during some of its darkest days during the Viet-Nam war protests which intensified under his successor, Bill Dyke.
More important, Festge was a mayor -- like so many mayors of the era -- whose major agenda was the betterment of the city, period.
We need more public servants like that.
